Their tans haven’t quite faded, the temperatures are still hot, but it’s time to trade in their bathing suits and surf boards for North Face backpacks, textbooks and No.2 pencils. If you’re among the many parents that clocked some serious back-to-school shopping miles, you know that the troubled economy has made allowances on wallets that are skinnier than the jeans.
